Bloggiesta 2012

Bloggiesta Logo featuring Pedro the Doer of All The ThingsThe Bloggiesta is upon us, and I plan to make the most of it.

For those of you who’re unfamiliar with the event, the Bloggiesta is part celebration, part intensive blog improvement project. Participants devote three days of their lives to All Things Blog. (Or All Things Blog Plus Whatever Else Comes Up, since three days of blog-blog-blog can be hard to hack for those with families, jobs, and otherwise busy agendas.)

I’ve got a hefty to-do list this time around. It took me almost a year of reviewing only the books I most wanted to discuss (and ARCs), but I've finally busted through my review backlog. I need to produce some more content, fast. I also want to attend to a few minor aesthetic concerns, and I need to comb through the many mini-challenges to see which fit my needs.

I’d really, really, really like to find a new blog layout, too. My current one was only ever meant to be a temporary placeholder. It’s past time I replaced it with something that’s more my style. I hope to devote an entire day to the process, somewhere down the line.

Here's my to-do list so far. It is, of course, subject to change as I think of more things I ought to tackle, or as I decide not to pursue certain goals:

My To-Do List:

  • write about ASIMOV’S

  • clean up my sidebar

  • make sure my tags are in order. Switch “graphic novels” to “comics.”

  • draft guest post

  • create an About Me post (maybe; does anyone feel the lack 'round here?)

  • write about my top reads of the first quarter

  • write about my favourite literary characters of 2011

  • write about women fantasists and Renay’s study

  • write about taking books overseas

  • write about why I love my library

  • write about the joy of rereading

  • work on proposal for potential secret project thingy

  • find a new layout

  • consider potential new names for the blog (because I'm bloody sick of people calling me Stella despite the way I've plastered my name all over my sidebar, my profile, and my review policy)

I don't want to spam peoples' feedreaders and friends pages, so I'll update this list throughout the weekend instead of posting periodic check-ins.

So Far I've:

  • posted this to-do list

  • added fancy-dancy social media buttons to my sidebar

  • replied to all outstanding comments

  • taken the Pinterest mini-challenge

  • attended to my GoogleReader

  • written about THE UNWRITTEN (how ironic)

  • reviewed MUFFLED DRUM and A BRUSH WITH DARKNESS as a double feature

  • marked release dates for my accepted ARCs on my calendar

  • reviewed MADAME TUSSAUD

  • finished reading volume three of A BRIDE'S STORY

  • reviewed A BRIDE'S STORY

  • written about my reading plans for April

  • written about super-awesome words

  • prepared a Diana Wynne Jones Retrospective

  • written about my ratings system

  • written about my reading plans for May

  • posted about the wonderful Diana Wynne Jones

  • written a wrap-up post for March

  • fully revised and prepped three posts for next week

Food and Drink Consumed:

  • two bowls of apple cinnamon cheerios

  • 2.5 cups of tea

  • somewhat more than forty ginormous glasses of water (I lost count)

  • a marble cheese stick

  • a generous spoonful of Nugatti (which is basically the poor person's Nutella)

  • one daytime cold pill

  • five four-cheese quesadillas with corn and cilantro

  • one slice of toast slathered with Nugatti

  • a large number of Double Stuf Oreos (again, I lost count)

  • two bowls of kettle corn

  • three chicken fingers with turkey gravy

  • a mound of mashed potatoes with turkey gravy

  • two pieces of toasted olive bread

  • two cups of iced tea

Aside From the Bloggiesta, I've:

  • eaten breakfast (x3)

  • attended to general dog maintenance (feeding, dressing, letting out, etc.)

  • eaten lunch (x2)

  • watched an ungodly number of episodes of BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER

  • watched one (absolutely heartbreaking) episode of CORONATION STREET. Poor Becky. I wish I could give her the biggest hug in the world. :(

  • forgotten to eat supper. Oops.

  • slept

  • ticketed all my Star Wars action figures

  • sold quite a few of those action figures to some very happy little boys.

I expect the review catch-up to be the hardest part. I haven't felt like writing thoughtful, organized responses in quite some time. I shall persevere, though, and hope I can build up enough momentum that the mojo returns all on its own.
