Read-a-Thon: Hour 21 -- Picturiffic Mini-Challenge
10th-Apr-2011 07:54 pm
A few read-a-thons ago, I noticed that my many update posts had pushed all my reviews off the main page. I didn't have a single picture on the front page of my blog.

The horror! A blog needs pictures, yes?

Don't leave your blog imageless! I want you to hunt around on the internet for a picture that has something to do with the book you're currently reading. You can post a painting or photograph that makes you think of the story or the characters, choose a few pictures that highlight some of the book's most important elements, or do a little of both. You do not have to create the picture yourself; this's meant to be a simple, late-in-the-game challenge, so something you find on a Google image search or through Flickr's creative commons archive is fine. Just remember to credit the person who took the picture.

The only images that don't count are a) the book's cover art or b) film stills, if the book has been adapted for movies or television. That'd be a little too easy. :)

I'm currently reading THE CHARMING QUIRKS OF OTHERS, an Alexander McCall Smith novel that takes place in Edinburgh. Since the setting is so important to the characters, I found this picture of Edinburgh Castle, one the city's landmarks:

*points* Been there! Been there!

I hope you're still enjoying the read-a-thon and the books you're reading! <3

LUCKY! I almost went to the very bottom of Scotland one time, but then it turned out I couldn't go there and make it back to Carlisle in time for my train home. I had to make do with looking at Mary Queen of Scots's 900-year-old dining table, which was in Carslisle Castle. It had a stuffed wolverine sitting on it for no apparent reason.

Not quite the same thing as going to Scotland, let alone seeing Edinburgh Castle.

Awww! I hope it was a pretty castle at least! I went on a school trip. Ish. It was organised by the student association at uni. (We were, what? Fives minutes from Edinburgh Castle?)

Alas, it was a military outpost, so it was rather low on frills. :( There was an interesting military museum, though, which is where the dining room table was. (Believe it or not, that table was mentioned as a key draw in all the brochures I saw.) Come to think of it, maybe the random stuffed wolverine was actually the regiment's mascot or something.

That's a pretty awesome schoolish trip! I got to go to Toronto once with my improv troupe, but that was it. No international travel to sites of historic interest.

Great challenge- sorry that my current read is a little on the dark and gloomy side!

It's a movie still, but Packing for Mars hasn't been made into a movie, so I'm okay, right?

Disney's old RocketMan movie!

It's humorous and has to do with space testing, just like the book!

In The Center of Everything, young Evelyn sees a map where the USA is in the center. Since Kansas, where she lives, is the center of the USA, that means that she lives in the center of everything.

Thanks for this challenge; I needed to wake up!

This was a fun one! I got to choose from several different ideas since I just finished a book of short stories. Edinburgh looks gorgeous, I've never been. (Also, woo Alexander McCall Smith! His books are so entertaining.)

Hi, this is my post for your lovely challenge. Was able to hunt for a perfect image to capture Lisbeth Salander, and it's an original to boot. http://gatheringbooks.wordpress.com/2011/04/10/picturrrific-minichallenge-for-dewey-readathon/
One of my former students made this artwork. Truly lovely.

I just finished up "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo"...my piture is a bit representational but it is also the exact type of girl I see the protagonist as...very connected technologically with some amazing dragon art.
